What is the purpose of the programme?

The purpose of the Breathing Life into the Community programme is to enhance the well-being and safety of the community in two ways:

  • By promoting First Aid training in the community we contribute to a safer and more confident community.
  • By providing financial support to local non-profit community organisations we assist them in achieving their goals.

How does the programme work?

Community organisations can register with us and become beneficiary organisations. This means that every person who attends a First Aid course with MediTrain Waikato can nominate this organisation. Once the course is completed we will send a cheque for $30 (per person completing a comprehensive or childcare first aid course), $20 (per person completing a recertification first aid course) or $5 (per person completing a CPR course) to the nominated organisation.

How do communities benefit from first aid training?

Research has shown that a community will benefit from having a relatively large percentage of persons trained in emergency First Aid. Those who are trained in First Aid feel more competent to deal with emergencies and have an increased awareness of safety. First Aid trained persons are more motivated to avoid injury and can influence the likelihood that others close to them, especially those aged 15 years and under, will have reduced injury rates for a period of time after the training. This is particularly evident in the home and school settings, in particular if mothers, caregivers, coaches and others in the 21–40 year age group receive the training.

Who can become a beneficiary organisation?

Any non-profit organisation that benefits the community and intends to spend the funding from the Breathing Life into the Community programme on items that directly assists the organisation or the local community.

Commercial organisations can join the programme and use the funding to create scholarships or grants for community benefiting projects or organisations. Please contact us for more information.

What can the funding be used for?

The aim of the Breathing Life into the Community programme is to provide financial assistance that directly benefits community groups or projects. Therefore the funding obtained from the programme should be used to purchase items that directly assist your organisation or the local community. It is not intended for overhead costs or other general expenses of organisations.

Are there any charges or conditions?

There are no charges for organisations to join the Breathing Life into the Community programme and the organisation does not have to use MediTrain Waikato as their preferred provider for their employees.

There are only two conditions for organisations who wish to join. Each organisation should:

  1. promote one MediTrain Waikato First Aid course to their community; and
  2. actively support the programme.

We work with organisations to organise the First Aid course and provide support, e.g. flyers, classroom (if needed).
